Characteristic

Doxorubicin hydrochloride is encapsulated in liposomes by surface binding to methoxy polyethylene glycol. This process, known as spatial stabilisation or cryptography, protects the liposomes from recognition by the mononuclear macrophage system (MPS) and thus prolongs their time in circulation.

This product is a sterile, translucent red suspension containing 2 mg/mL of doxorubicin hydrochloride per 10 mL vial, and is a concentrate for single dose intravenous administration. The active ingredient is doxorubicin hydrochloride, an anthracycline cytotoxic antibiotic derived from a culture of Streptomyces bosei epi-gris variant.

Indications

It can be used in patients with AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma (AIDS-KS) with low CD4 and extensive cutaneous mucosal visceral disease.
