Its mode of action is mainly to interfere with the function of Plasmodium surface membrane mitochondria. Through its internal peroxide (dioxygen) bridge, it is mediated by the free iron produced after the decomposition of hemoglobin to produce unstable organic free radicals and / or other electrophilic intermediates, and then form covalent adducts with the proteins of the malaria parasite, resulting in the death of the malaria parasite.
